SHOP SUPERVISOR

Job Summary

Incumbent is responsible to maintain tool and supply inventory, coordinate delivery, and insure condition of tools, equipment, and supplies to meet tool & equipment needs for all jobs. Insures proper return to vendors or restock of all excess pipe, fittings, and/or valves returned from job sites. Manages company vehicle purchases and maintenance. Manages property care and upkeep. Responsible for organization of shop and cage area to make most efficient use of space. Supervision of individuals assigned to shop area.

Working/Thinking Environment

The incumbent generally works from a desk in the tool shop area, using an automated inventory system on a personal computer to maintain control of inventory. The environment is one requiring flexibility and prioritizing needs, many times under a restricted time frame. Incumbent will need to be responsive to requests from field leaders, often times finding himself/herself coordinating deliveries of tools and equipment on short notice.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Incumbent is responsible for maintaining a current inventory and location of tools, equipment, and supplies that are generally used at various job sites.

  • Responsible for tracking assigned items to each job and/or foreman, generally using the appropriate software.

  • Responsible for insuring that all tools, equipment, and supplies are in good working order when returned and/or sent out. Repairs or supervises repair of tools, trucks, and equipment when possible, making sure all safety related parts are properly attached and functional. When repairs are beyond shop scope, enlists services of experts in a cost effective manner to assure prompt repair.

  • Incumbent is responsible to purchase or recommend purchase of new/replacement tools and equipment as required by jobs. Purchases in excess of $500 should be approved by a member of management before the purchase is made.

  • Incumbent is responsible to assure that all tools, equipment and supplies are delivered and retrieved from the job sites in a timely fashion. Incumbent is responsible to maintain regular and open communication with job site management to insure that tools/equipment required at sites are on site when required by the job. Generally requires coordination with shop and site personnel and may occasionally require personal delivery.

  • Incumbent is responsible for the shipping and receiving of equipment, job materials, and prefabrication to work sites. Responsible for storing equipment and materials until shipped out to work sites.

  • Incumbent is responsible for the orderly maintenance of the shop and cage area, making efficient use of available space and keeping the inventory well organized and accessible. Responsible to organize the cage area so that, in the incumbent’s absence, assigned personnel can easily find or track tools & equipment.

  • Responsible for vehicle purchases and maintenance.

  • Responsible for property care and upkeep, including cranes, elevator, fire inspections and haz-mat.

  • Incumbent is responsible for care of safety related equipment for shop and work sites.

  • Responsible to supervise daily activities of employees assigned to the shop area, keeping them engaged in useful duties (i.e., deliveries, repairs, facility organization and cleanliness, etc.).

Equipment Used

Incumbent will handle a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies. May be required to drive various trucks, fork lifts, and operate power equipment. Requires the use of a personal computer for tracking of inventory.

Education, Training, & Experience Required

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Generally requires experience in managing inventory of tools, supplies or equipment.

  • Should possess a thorough knowledge of mechanical trades with significant experience in operation and simple repair of construction related power tools and equipment.

  • Must possess or have the capability to acquire necessary certifications (proper driver’s license, etc.) in order to meet goals.

  • Requires ability or experience in working with automated inventory systems.

  • Must have demonstrated excellent communication, organizational, and prioritization skills.

  • Must have demonstrated leadership abilities, able to provide simple and detailed instruction to staff; promoting teamwork and cooperation among employees.
